2013 Oregon APA Conference and 40th Anniversary Celebration

The OAPA Conference will be held at the Oregon Convention Center in downtown Portland, Oregon.

Bring your big ideas and party attire to the annual Oregon Chapter of American Planning Association (OAPA) Conference and 40th anniversary celebration.

The conference will be held 29 to 31 May at the Oregon Convention Center in downtown Portland, Oregon. This year’s theme is “Oregon’s Vision Turns 40,” and takes a look back at the planning accomplishments and challenges that Oregon has faced over the past 40 years. Join fellow planners, environmentalists, and industry activists for discussions about Oregon’s progress in the areas of urban growth, protected farmland, land use planning, and more. 2013 Joint Engineers Training Conference & Expo

The Society of American Military Engineers, the premier professional military engineering association in the United States, will host the Joint Engineers Training Conference & Expo (JETC) at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California, from 21 to 24 May.

The annual conference provides individuals in both the public and private sectors to gain educational and technical training along with the opportunity to network with more than 250 companies and public agencies. The conference will feature keynote speaker Ira Winkler, president of the Internet Security Advisors Group. One of the most influential security professionals and dubbed a “Modern Day James Bond” by the media, Ira will reveal his security secrets and disclose how companies and individuals can protect themselves from even the most diabolical criminals. 1962 Seattle World’s Fair

The showcase of the Seattle World's Fair was the nation's first full-scale commercial monorail system.

Officially opened on 21 April 1962, the Seattle World’s Fair was a landmark event in the Pacific Northwest. The design and construction of the Fair’s buildings and structures pushed the limits of contemporary structural design and was directly shaped by advanced structural design technologies.

On 7 May, the Structural Engineers Foundation of Washington. will premiere their documentary, “Structural Engineers of the 1961 Seattle World’s Fair,” at the Seattle Center House Theatre. The documentary showcases the experiences of the nine structural engineers, including BergerABAM founding member Bob Mast, who helped design several of these iconic structures. Seventh National Seismic Conference on Bridges and Highways

The conference will focus on innovation in earthquake engineering and the advancement of technology to provide increased seismic safety of highway structures.

The upcoming Seventh National Seismic Conference will take place on 20 May through 22 May. This year’s conference was chosen to be held in Oakland, California, by the Federal Highway Administration based on the state of California’s past experience with earthquakes and the California Department of Transportation’s leadership in the field. The conference theme is “Bridge Resilience for Earthquakes and Other Natural Hazards” and will focus “on innovation in earthquake engineering and the advancement of technology that can provide increased seismic safety of highway bridges and other highway structures.” Read more about Seventh National Seismic Conference on Bridges and Highways
