BergerABAM Senior Project Manager Awarded T.Y. Lin Award

BergerABAM Senior Project Manager Bob Harn was awarded the T.Y. Lin Award for his technical paper published in the PCI Journal in 2013.

The Structural Engineering Institute has awarded Robert (Bob) Harn, a senior project manager at BergerABAM, the prestigious 2015 T.Y. Lin Award for his technical paper “Seismic Stability of Marine Piers Built with Prestressed Concrete Piles.” Published in the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) Journal in 2013, the paper investigates the stability of pile-supported marine piers during earthquakes, identifies the conditions that can cause piers to collapse, analyzes different alternatives for its prevention, and proposes designs to help reduce the potential for collapse.

First Ever Sustainable Design Competition in the Pacific Northwest

The American Society of Civil Engineers Seattle Sustainability Committee put together a presentation board of their design that was presented at the awards ceremony.

The Tacoma Green Infrastructure Challenge (TGIC), hosted by the City of Tacoma, Washington, tasked participating teams to develop concepts to make the city’s infrastructure more sustainable. Teams consisted of a mix of local firms, sustainability committee members, and university students. The competition began in November 2014 with tours of three project sites: Industrial Redevelopment at the Port of Tacoma, Urban Redevelopment at Metro Parks Tacoma, and a Green Roadway on South Tacoma Way. Teams could choose one of the three project sites to showcase sustainable development methods.
