Milk Processing Plant

Jerome, Idaho

BergerABAM worked closely with the contractor to overcome several unique design challenges in completing this milk processing plant. One challenge for the contractor was the sequencing of the structural components as the facility was being built. Because of the size and complexity of the equipment, the structure had to be built similar to putting a puzzle together and had to consider the installation procedure for the processing plant equipment.

Another special feature of the design was the requirement to adhere to Food and Drug Administration standards and designing smooth surfaces for interior walls as a way to ensure a dust-free environment. Because of these all-exposed special requirements, BergerABAM used tube steel sections for the interior columns and beams for further assurance in achieving a sanitary environment.

Finally, due to the construction and erection of the facility during inclement weather, the tube connections were bolted rather than welded. The project was designed and constructed in 14 months, despite these special design challenges.
