Manzanillo International Terminal

Colón, Republic of Panama

A privately held container terminal operator and cargo handling company desired to expand operations into international markets beginning with the Manzanillo International Terminal. This facility serves as an important transshipment center for Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as a convenient gateway to the Colón Free Trade Zone - the largest free trade area in the western Hemisphere.

To allow the client to gain early returns from this privately financed project, BergerABAM's engineers focused on construction phasing and scheduling to accommodate the early opening of portions of the facility. BergerABAM's engineers designed a wharf extension and a terminal expansion to increase capacity of this transshipment terminal.

BergerABAM's careful planning of the facility allowed the expansion program to take place over four years with no impact on terminal activities.
