Naval Station Everett, Breakwater Pier

Everett, Washington

BergerABAM developed a structural concept for the breakwater that could perform double duty as a breakwater and as a finger pier. Scale-model testing revealed that the pier could be designed so the majority of the large swells would be broken prior to entering the inner harbor, yet limited the reflected waves into the adjacent public shipping channel. The design allowed water circulation through and under the structural breakwater, reducing environmental impacts on existing marine life and minimizing wave reflection into the adjacent navigation channel.

The breakwater pier represents an innovative solution in combining an environmentally friendly breakwater with a fully functional heavy-duty pier.
