LNG Berth Recommissioning

Cove Point, Maryland

While the land-based storage and distribution facilities at the Cove Point liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier terminal have been in continuous use since commissioning, the LNG carrier berthing facility had been shut down for several years. To meet the increasing demands for LNG, the berths for receiving and unloading LNG vessels were recommissioned and upgraded to handle larger LNG carriers than those envisioned in the original design. BergerABAM's knowledge and experience with sophisticated structural and mooring analysis programs made it possible for the marine terminal to comply with new operational and safety requirements, as well as allow berthing of larger LNG vessels that were not in service when the facility was first built.
